The T.V. (media) in Chile do not recognize that the Procession of the "Virgen del Carmen" (Catholic holiday of Penco that takes place in November of each year) is a living heritage!
The first procession dates NOTHING MORE! AND NOTHING LESS! that of the year 1643 A.D.
During the XVI Century he got to Penco the spanish "Mr. Francisco López de Zuñiga" governor, Baide´s marquis, and Field Marshall of Chile.
Very devoted of the "Maria Virgin", he made somebody bring a beautiful image of the "Del Carmen Virgin" to Penco, that for those years it was absolutely unknown in Chile.
He asks them of the Agustinian monks that accept her.
That way, melt down the April 15, 1643, the brotherhood of this historic devotion to the Virgin.
This happened in the convent of the Augustinians, located for those years in the present day "Roble Street" (Corner Freire).
Importance establishes, in which even though "The Virgen del Carmen" managed to be ackonowledged like the Woman In Charge of Chile (and from the very same Vatican in 1923) the beginnings in their devotion began in Penco from the XVII Century at a later time to answer back in other towns and parish churches of the country.
In a few words, this tradition came to life in Penco-TOWN.
